Game 7 - October 17, 2009

I missed last week's game because we were in Portland. Unfortunately, Kaelan fractured his arm and will be out the rest of the season. But he was here to support us for our game against the Dragons!!

Jeremy was captain and Trey was co-captain. Jeremy made two great goal attempts early on, and Trey dribbled up to score. Keaton also brought the ball up and made an attempt. Pokaku and Shane played such great defense as fullbacks that Casey as keeper complained that he "didn't have any customers"!!

Trey and Evan started off the second quarter as forwards. Evan had an incredible play where he used his scissors move to fake out the opponent. Casey played some strong defense. The Dragons scored one goal this quarter.

During the third quarter, Shane made one attempt as forward. Keaton made three attempts, scoring on the third to bring the score up 2 to 1. Meanwhile Casey, inspired by Evan, used a scissors move to fake out his opponent. Pohaku played an awesome keeper, protecting the goal from several scoring attempts.

The fourth quarter saw Pohaku making an attempt to score. Evan and Keaton were fast as defensive players with Jeremy as the keeper, and this team rejecting any scoring attempts by the Dragons.

The boys were really glad they played a team that had great sportsmanship, so kudos to Coach Chris Kuhn for being a great coach!!

After the game, Jeremy found some money and was honest enough to report it to me. Thank you Jeremy!!

Finally, a huge mahalo to Casey's family for bringing drinks for the kids and water for the refs and coaches. Hopefully the Nakagawa's generosity will put us over on our points so that we can play the friendship games at the end of the season!!

Game 5 - October 3, 2009

The boys were on FIRE today. Coming off of a scrimmage yesterday where the boys won, 1 to 0, they played STRONG!! We missed Casey today, who was on Kauai.

We played coach Darren Driskill's team, and Hugh Gentry's crew was the ref. Ryan and Pohaku were captain and co-captain. Ryan started the game off strong with an goal, with a STRONG assist by Pohaku!! Jeremy as right half also scored a goal to bring the game up 2 to 0 early on. Ryan also took 2 additional goal attempts, and Keaton made another attempt. Meanwhile, Trey and Shane played strong back positions so that Evan didn't have to do much as keeper - though he WAS ready!!

The second quarter saw more scoring drives. Evan scored a strong goal, followed by Kaelan scoring. Evan had another nice drive in to the goal. Kaelan took a strong drive in too. Trey took a shot. Ryan played a strong keeper, only letting one goal go in - though it was way over his head, so there wasn't much that he could do.

Trey and Jeremy played forwards in the third. Trey scored 2 goals, and Jeremy scored 1. They had great assists from both Pohaku and Evan as halfbacks. Shane had some good plays as keeper.

At this point, the score was 7 to 1, and I was trying multiple ways of not running up the score. During the 4th quarter, Keaton and Shane played forward. Shane scored a goal!! At this point, goals were scored by 6 or our players. I called over Jeremy, Evan, Kaelan and Ryan to ease up a little on defense, in hopes that the other team could score a few points, but the other team wasn't able to score.

While I was bummed for the other team that they didn't score more goals, according to all of our players, they were being threatened with "I'm going to push you down", and were subject to teasing and taunting, but we held our heads high and played with class. Fortunately the refs were calling a lot of the intentional slide tackles and tripping, and I was very happy with that.

Most importantly, while I don't like running up the score, I told the boys that the best retaliation for dirty play is to just win! And they did that in a BIG way.

Good going Extreme! You guys are awesome!!
