Game 2 - September 12, 2009

Trey and Casey, driving the ball

What a game!! Today we played Coach Nadia's team, and Alex and Steve (and someone else I don't know) from Coach Greg's team reffed.

Once again, we were missing two players, this time - Jeremy and Shane. We hope Jeremy did well at his Bible Bee, and Shane did well at his last baseball game!! And though we're rooting for Shane to do well in baseball, we're glad his season is over and he can concentrate on soccer! Because we were two players down, all of our players played the full game, and they sure had a lot of energy!

Pohaku was our team captain and together with co-captain Kaelan, were our starting forwards. About halfway through the first quarter, in a strong defensive play, Keaton (as fullback) got hit hard in the head by keeper Ryan, who were both going for the ball. Keaton sat out for a while to recover, but he recovered really quickly and was soon back in the game. Thanks to the strong defense or Evan, Trey and Ryan, we only let the other team score one goal on us, even though their offense was tough!!

Ryan started out the second quarter strong as forward, and with some incredible assists by Casey, scored 2 goals!! Meanwhile, Keaton, Evan and Pohaku played some awesome defense against the opposing team, who were still playing really strong, and we only let them score one goal on us for the 2nd quarter.

We went into the third quarter tied 2 to 2. Keaton and Trey as forwards was a REALLY fast combination!! Their defense was no match for their speed, and together they pushed the ball forward to allow Trey a shot that scored the goal to bring the game to 3-2. Evan went head to head with a former teammate named Jacob. Jacob is an incredible player, no doubt, but Evan stole the ball from him several times!! Evan is FAST!! Kaelan had some incredible defensive moves that denied the opposing team any scoring, and Casey played a strong keeper.

The following video isn't Evan's steal from Jacob, but this is Evan and Keaton stealing the ball from an opponent:

The fourth quarter saw Evan and Kaelan as forwards, another potent combination! Together they managed to keep the ball in the other teams field quite a bit. Trey as keeper denied several scoring attempts. Ryan drove the ball in hard to score 2 more goals to bring the score to 5-2 at the end.

Once again, I am so proud of you guys, Extreme. You guys play a good, clean game, and you guys put your all into it, even when you complain about being tired. And I give you credit for playing a full 4 quarters and running the field for 50 minutes. I center reffed the game afterward, and running the field the whole time in the hot sun wiped me out!! Keep up the GREAT work boys, I am proud of each and every one of you.

Also, I didn't get a chance to thank Ray (Casey's dad) for taking time out of what sounded like a crazy hectic day to Ref our assigned game. Thank you so much Ray and Cyril (Pohaku's dad) for the support - without parents like you, I wouldn't be able to Coach this team. And of course, Cyril's constant support as Assistant Coach is MUCH appreciated!! You guys are the best.

Also, thank you to the Uehara family for bringing treats for the kids after the game!!
