Game 3 - September 19, 2009
Today's game was against Coach Patrick Omura's team, the Energizers. Shane was our team captain, and Jeremy was co-captain. During the first quarter, the Energizer offense was strong and taxed our defense. The ball stayed quite a while on our half of the field, but Trey, Ryan and Evan kept the other team from scoring.
Quarter 2 was another strong offensive quarter for the Energizers, but as Keeper, Jeremy kept it strong. Casey did a lot of running and said he was feeling overheated. But I think Casey is more like the "Energizer" - that boy keeps going.... and going.....
By the third quarter we were down 3 to 0, so we switched up tactics by having Ryan, Kaelan and Casey all play forward positions, with support from Pohaku in the half position. This paid off a little because we kept the ball in the Energizer's half of the field, but their defense was strong and kept us from scoring. Though the times which they got the ball to our side, Evan and Shane played strong defense, with Keaton showing his skills as a Keeper.
After a 3rd quarter break, Trey came back in for the 4th quarter, and we had the smaller but speedy players Evan, Keaton, Trey and Shane as our offense. We also had a big defense with Jeremy and Pohaku as backs, with Ryan as Keeper. Though that lineup was missing the excellent skills of both Casey and Kaelan, it was the lineup where I think the kids played their strongest positions. The boys played a great quarter and had fun. Ending the game scoreless for us was okay, as the boys put their all into the game, and still had fun. They were good sports, even after losing. Like every week, I was very proud of them. And it was good to see how they fared against a very strong team like Coach Patrick's - it gave me a lot of ideas on what to work on at practice.
